Q - What is a smart sensor?

A - AuthenTec's smart sensor, mounted just beneath the LG eXpo's touchscreen display, enhance the touch-based features of the phone by giving users convenient fingerprint security as well as personalization and input control options.

 

Q - Why is the fingerprint sensor considered smart?

A - Because it provides more than just fingerprint authentication for enhanced security and data privacy.  AuthenTec's AES1711 sensor also provides user navigation features that complement the LG eXpo's touchscreen, including precise cursor control for text editing, 4-way menu navigation, and AuthenTec’s unique turbo-scroll feature.

 

Q - What kind of security features does the LG eXpo's smart sensor provide?

A - AuthenTec's smart sensor provides one-touch device unlock on the LG eXpo, replacing a Windows Mobile PIN or password.

 

Q - Will this phone work with my company's Microsoft Exchange security policies?

A - AuthenTec's smart sensor is compatible with Microsoft's Exchange security environment, providing users with a secure and convenienct one-touch login alternative to mandatory PINs and passwords.

 

Q - How secure is the fingerprint authentication feature?

A - Very secure.  Unlike PINs and passwords, fingerprint sensors offer users a convenient login method that cannot be stolen, shared, forgotten or guessed.  In fact, AuthenTec sensors have provided security for more than 50 million products since AuthenTec was founded in 1998.  More than 40 million PCs and peripherals and 10 million wireless devices have used AuthenTec sensors.

 

Q - What is turbo scroll?

A - Turbo scroll is the ability to quickly scroll through long or wide web pages, contact lists, e-mails and other documents without repetitive finger movements.  To use, simply hold a finger on the sensor after moving in any direction.  Turbo scrolling is faster than navigating long lists by use of the touchscreen, and also doesn't obscure the display.

 

Q - Are there other advantages of a smart sensor over other input devices, including mechanical ones?

A - In addition to providing fingerprint authentication and input control capabilities, the smart sensor is not mechanical so navigation performance doesn't degrade over time because of dirt buildup so common with trackballs.

 

Q - If I use the LG eXpo’s smart fingerprint sensor, will my fingerprints be stored on the phone or by my service provider?

A - No, your fingerprint images will never be stored on the phone or anywhere else.  When you setup fingerprint security and register one or more fingers, your fingerprints are transformed into a template.  This template is nothing more than a mathematical representation, and the fingerprint image cannot be reconstructed from this data.  No personally identifiable information will be created or stored when you use the LG eXpo’s fingerprint security feature.
